I pride myself on offering great value for money. By utilising groups and the great advantages of online tuition, I can provide an excellent service for just £25 per 75 minute session. This is much cheaper than 1-1 sessions.

There are 2 taster sessions available, so pupils can experience the lessons with no long-term commitment.

Optional 1-1 booster sessions are exclusively available for group participants. Available sessions will be emailed to all parents/carers and will be allocated on a ‘first-come, first served’ basis. 1-1 sessions are priced at £40 per hour.

Frequently Asked Questions

What You Should Know

How do I contact you or request taster sessions?

Use the contact form

Call 07742719667

email: emma@ejwtutoring.co.uk

What does the initial call involve?
It’s a friendly chat to find out about your child’s learning journey, strengths, areas for improvement, and goals. You can also ask any questions about my sessions. If we decide that my tuition isn’t the right fit, I’ll recommend other options that may suit your child better.
What ages do you work with?
I work with children in KS2.
At what age should I start 11+ tutoring?
Formal 11+ preparation usually starts in Year 5. However, because the test is set above the Year 5 curriculum level, many benefit from developing their Maths and English skills earlier. Support in Years 3 and 4 boosts confidence, strengthens core skills, and helps your child feel more comfortable when formal preparation starts.
Which entrance exams do you prepare children for?

I prepare children to sit the Wirral 11+ (this includes Wirral Grammar Schools for Girls and Boys, West Kirby and Caldy), Upton Hall and St Anselms.

I would be happy to prepare children for other entrance exams, if required.

What do you charge?
£25 per 75-minute session.
What will my child need for lessons?

Essential:

  • A reliable PC/laptop
  • A stable internet connection
  • A notebook and pencil
  • A good quality dictionary and thesaurus
  • A graphics tablet and pen

Beneficial

  • Access to a printer
  • Headphones with a microphone
Do you provide homework?
All 11+ students have detailed homework. Other homework can be suggested on request.
Payments, cancellations & refunds

For new students, Initial taster sessions are charged at the normal rate (£25 per session). Payment for each taster session is required at least 48 hours before the lesson. A student will be offered a maximum of 2 taster sessions. If the tutee wishes to continue, the remainder of the half-term payments will be required at least 48 hours before their 3rd session. Thereafter, parents/carers are required to pay upfront for tutoring each half-term. Failure to do so risks losing your child’s place. Late payment fees: students will not be able to attend their session until payments and the late payment fee of £15 has been received. Lessons are paid for by bank transfer.

Refunds will not be offered for missed lessons. Pupils will receive a recording of the lesson, or I will offer an alternative session if I have availability. Please inform me by WhatsApp or text if your child will be missing a session.

If I must cancel, I will try to offer an alternative session, if that’s not possible I will, of course, refund.

Passionate About Education

Throughout my career, it has always been important to me to build the confidence and self-esteem of the pupils I work with. In 1996, whilst studying for my degree at UWIC, now Cardiff Metropolitan University, I trained and volunteered to run an afterschool ‘Pyramid Club’ – these clubs aim to give children ‘a safe space to grow in confidence, friendship and self-belief’. I continued to volunteer as a Pyramid Club leader throughout my teaching career, co-ordinating clubs across the school and training volunteers, earning an award from the then ‘National Pyramid Trust’.

I bring the skills that I developed whilst working on this project to my work as a tutor. Through building excellent relationships with my pupils, I create an encouraging space where confidence, resilience and learning flourish, enabling pupils to tackle new challenges in lessons and beyond.

What They’re Saying

Testimonials

Thank you for all your help and understanding; my daughter is a quirky character and you have adapted and accepted this to get the best out of her!

Leanne

Thank you Ms. Emma for being a wonderful teacher and guiding our son in his studies. We greatly appreciate the positive learning environment you provide and the invaluable feedback you give us after each lesson. We have been very fortunate to have you as our son’s tutor and mentor.
Mrs Menon

Emma was a great tutor. Our son really liked her and considering his Aspergers she did a great job getting through to him.
Ben

Emma has been tutoring our son for around a year now, primarily for self-confidence. He was really unsure about having a tutor, but Emma really put him at ease. She’s patient and explains things really well. My son’s confidence at school and with homework grew as result of his time with Emma. We decided to carry on tutoring for the 11+ for which he passed with a really good score. We are so happy with Emma that she is continuing to work with him for his year 6 SATs I would highly recommend her to anyone considering a tutor for their child.

Aaron

Emma is great, she is friendly, professional, punctual, very organised with lesson plans and flexible with tutoring sessions during holiday periods. We have always been kept up to date with our son’s progress and been briefed on what has been covered in each session. I would not hesitate to recommend Emma as tutor.
Mrs Miller

Emma has really helped our daughter’s confidence in her English and Maths. She has a very friendly and approachable manner. Importantly Emma has built a very good relationship with our daughter. Would recommend Emma 100%

Emma has been tutoring our daughter during year 5 for the 11+. The use of Zoom to begin with was an odd concept, however it has worked perfectly with Emma available on e-mail or WhatsApp for any follow ups and support as required. I would highly recommend Emma as she is both professional and friendly with our daughter and she’s found the whole experience very rewarding and productive.
Keith

Excellent tutor for the Wirral and St Anselm’s 11+ exams. Emma did a great job in tutoring our son. She covered the curriculum in good time such that before the exam she was able to focus more deeply on his weaker areas. She taught him some good exam technique which I’m sure helped him do well on the day.
Matthew

Ava is doing really well with her 11+. Emma has given her confidence and explains things in a way she understands. When she first started, Ava wouldn’t talk to Emma with being very shy and got very upset if she got a question wrong. Now Ava looks forward to her lessons, talks to Emma and excepts she can’t always get every question correct. I have also seen an improvement in her work at school. Would definitely recommend.
